Meet your instructor

Hi, I'm Emily!

I'm a slow fashion, sewing, and sustainable lifestyle blogger over at Emily Lightly.

I started sewing my own clothing in 2019, and I have to admit that I got completely hooked. Since then, I've sewn up a handmade wardrobe full of garments that I am so proud of and absolutely love to wear.

In that time, I've also learned a LOT about sewing. And I'm sharing it all with you in this course! I hope to see you there.

FAQ

  • Who is this course for?

This course is perfect for anyone who wants to learn how to sew (even if you've never touched a machine in your life!) I teach all of the basics that you need to know, and no prior sewing experience is needed.

  • What do I need to complete this course?

You will need to have access to a sewing machine, basic sewing supplies, and some material to create your own tote bag.

  • What will I be able to sew after taking this course?

While the course content mainly teaches sewing through the lens of making garments, the skills taught can be applied to a variety of other projects such as accessories and housewares, and other crafts such as mending and upcycling.

  • How long does the course take?

The course is completely self-paced, meaning you can complete it in as little or as much time as you need. That said, most students can complete the course content in under a month.

  • My machine has a problem. What do I do?

While I’m not able to help with individual machine issues in this course, we do go over some of the common problems that come up and how to troubleshoot them. When in doubt, take your machine to a professional repair shop.

  • I'm on a budget. Can I still sew?

Yes! How much you invest in this hobby is up to you. Shopping secondhand and thrifting supplies is a great way to save money when you’re just starting out, and we go over some tips in this course.
